I wouldn't put too much stock in what Tara Sloan has to say. "Homely and half naked". This coming from someone like Tara who thinks that her constant intake of beer and cigarettes makes her look attractive. "Hit on every woman". My guess is that every woman except for Tara gets hit on, and she can't understand why any sane man avoids her because of her histrionic personality.

Sunday brunch was wonderful! It started off just right with the build your own bloody mary menu. You get to choose three items off the selected menu (for $12) which was just the right amount of food. Service was great and very prompt. My only (very slight) complaint would be... skip the creme brulee, it wasn't to exciting.

Prairie Soup Company is a great little lunch spot in the CR skywalk. Ordering at the counter was friendly and fast. The menu looks fresh and has many options for both breakfast/coffee options and lunch choices as well. The tomato soup and grilled cheese combo was perfect!

This is a big bar split into 2 sides - 1 side is a typical bar, the other side is a straight dance club with another mini "tiki" bar. The DJ when I was there (DJ CJ) was great, the staff is decent, and the bouncers are dicks. Check it out!

I am from Des Moines and traveled to Cedar Rapids for a college friend's wedding. Several of our college friends were at this wedding, but there were a few we wanted to hang out with that weren't. So, after the reception closed down we went to Toocan's to meet up with them. We were in a great mood. Getting into this bar was like entering an airport terminal. I had to show the bouncer the contents of my purse, which was only a small clutch. One of my guy friends was asked to remove his black stocking cap. Fine. Whatever. After all 5 of us made it through TSA, er, I mean the entrance we made our way to our friends sitting at the bar. Service was fine. We didn't seem to wait too terribly long before getting our first drink. As we were hanging out and catching up my guy friend noticed that most all of the guys in this bar had baseball caps on. Well then, he decided to put his stocking cap back on. A bouncer swiftly made his way to my friend, who wasn't posing a threat to anyone and only talking to our group, and told him to "REMOVE THAT! AND IF I SEE IT AGAIN YOU'RE DONE!" Or, something to that effect. My friend quickly removed his stocking cap, but as you can imagine our moods were on the decline. As the night went on, service became a little slower. It seemed if you weren't waving money in front of the bartenders, or wearing the bare minimum you weren't going to get attention from the bar staff. Finally, it was last call. The bouncers were yelling at everyone to leave, which is pretty typical for this type of bar. But when my boyfriend called me and said "Come on it's time to go!" the bouncer behind him said "HEY, DON'T TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO DO!" And all I have to say about that is WTF! So, if you like going to places were the bar staff feels impowered and likes to assert their "status" then this might be a great place for you to go.

My husband and I went here shortly after it opened. The atmosphere was fun; however I didn't like the food. I could have made a burger or equal or better quality on my grill in my backyard versus paying $12.00 for a burger here. Not a fan.

My husband and I absolutely love this place! The chips and salsa (and queso) are delicious, as well as the food. It is cheap, but really tasty! And the margaritas are even better!

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. The chef knows what he's doing and their wait staff is excellent and very knowledgeable. Here's a short story about an experience I had at Vino's. We were out celebrating father's day. My father-in-law requested some 40 year port for an after dinner drink. The manager told us that if we were willing to wait 10 minutes, he'd have some at our table. We agreed, he left the restaurant, drove to their sister restaurant and came back with our bottle. That said, Vino's provides excellent service accompanied by great martinis, good wines, and excellent food. Show up early or stay late and have a cocktail at RG Books next door.

Such a mixed bag. Good: Beer is very good. Not-so-good: Food is very typical bar food... pretty greasy and nothing particularly special. Somewhere-in-the-middle: The service. Not sure if it's too few people working, not good enough tipping to encourage better service, or what... but the service is not among the best in town. Better than the train wreck that was the Tilted Kilt, but not nearly as helpful as I'd hope for a place like this. But maybe my expectations are too much. Is it worth a trip here during a sports event to have a good brew? Absolutely. Is it good for an after work beer with coworkers or friends? You bet. Should you expect to go here with somebody who demands extra attention or is picky about service? Probably not, since they may start complaining.
